Kim's Little Snippets

This blog is about the ups and downs of being a wife, mother, teacher and all of the other roles that women have these days. In memory of my nephew, Barry Rabon- 9/18/92- 11/11/07

New

I should be in bed right now, but had to post. Finally, Jim's hours have changed. He is on his "new" schedule. We definitely got to see him more tonight. I know it will be difficult for his body to adjust to working all night long, and sleeping during the day, but we will be able to spend more time together as a family. So, that is a praise after almost 2 years of waiting.

We got a new computer last week. It is awesome. Maybe I will be able to post pictures once I get them transferred to this new computer. Also, I went on the Charleston, SC trip with Josh last week. It was busy, but fun. The kids were well behaved for the most part. I had a good group of boys to chaperone.

I had a follow up appt. today with the rheumatologist regarding my recent lupus test (and how it got more positive). It was encouraging. He told me that my fatigue was most likely not related to this test result at all and told me that I may look into seeing a sleep specialist. I have no other symptoms related to lupus so he told me I didn't need to come back unless I start to show some lupus symptoms. He took 6 vials of bloodwork though- not really sure what all he tested. This got me to thinking about my sleep- I tend to toss and turn all night- maybe I don't get fully rested?? Well, got to get some sleep. Only 26 more school days left!!

He Scored!

Josh's middle school ball season is almost over and tonight they had an away game. I wasn't able to make it because Amber had a game here in Matthews. With Josh being a 6th grader, (playing with 7th and 8th graders) he hasn't gotten a lot of playing time this season. So, he got walked and scored for the first time. He was so excited. I'm glad for him because it's been a stressful week with lots of homework, and games.

Other things of interest this week: Amber had a great hit to the fence the other night (I missed it, but Jim saw it). I think we only have 31 school days left- it's winding down. I will be chaperoning for the 6th grade field trip to Charleston next week- I'm glad to get away, but a little worried how the kids will behave (I haven't missed a day since November). Random thoughts, but we had grandparent's day today and the grandparent's are allowed to sign their child out after the music program. I only had 2 students left (plus Amber), so I got a lot of work and some cleaning done. It was a nice day. I think I will leave it at that.

Busy

It was a very busy day today. I left the house at 7:30 a.m. and didn't get home until 9:30 tonight. I need to be going to bed, but am trying to wind down. Josh had 2 games tonight, and Amber had a game. It's kind of crazy scheduling(especially since Jim works nights), but he was able to leave and get Amber to her game and then I took Josh to his 2nd game. Through all of this craziness, I have another sinus infection (lost my voice). I could feel it coming w/ the change of weather over the weekend. My allergies have really been bothering me. You'd think that 2 allergy medicines, eye drops, nasal spray, and allergy shots would keep me well- nope! The good thing is that my doctor will just call in a RX for me because this happens so much. The other thing that is good about losing my voice, is that my students try to be quiet so that they can hear me (at least for the first part of the day:-)

Josh has 3 more games with school ball, and then life should get a little less chaotic. I'm off to bed now.

Achievement Test Week-YAHOO

I always love achievement testing week. Here are my selfish reasons why: the kids have to be silent during testing (I love quiet times:-), I'm not being bombarded w/ a million questions by my students, and teaching is much more laid back this week. This is probably my favorite week of the school year:-) We had a really good day even though they got kind of loud this afternoon. The kids did their centers and I even came up w/ a game for them to play at one center- they ended up really liking this timed game. It was nice for me to see their enjoyment, so I think this will be added as an option for centers. I like learning from them.

The weekend seemed to fly by. It was pretty noneventful. I got some school work done and went to church and rested. It was nice to get some rest. From here on out, life/school is going to be very busy. Josh is enjoying his Wii and bought a fishing game that he is hooked to. Oh, I did get a new cell phone over the weekend (a chocolate). I think I like it o.k., but need to get used to it. Our computer is still on the brink of blowing up, and we are trying to search for a good deal. I'm leaning towards Gateway, but we'll see. I still can't load pictures up on this blog, and that is a little frustrating to me. Well, that's about it for now.

Wii

Well, we had our yard sale Saturday and did pretty well. Everything that was sold was to go to the "Wii fund" as I called it. We pretty much got all the money needed, but we started searching a few stores between Saturday and Sunday and couldn't find one. Jim called around on Tuesday and found one at Gamestop at the mall. The kids were surprised to see it when we came home that night (from 3 ball games)! Jim put it together while we were at school yesterday and when we came home, Josh started playing. I had a flute lesson to teach, but afterwards I started watching and playing too. Wow, I must say that I am impressed with this gaming system. We had fun last night, but I hate to say that my right arm is a little sore today (from swinging the tennis racket, throwing the baseball, hitting the ball and playing bowling). I walked back in the room later to find Josh boxing at the t.v. It was hilarious- he was actually breaking out a sweat playing that game. Josh also bought guitar hero 3- he was enjoying that last night.

I tried to add pictures of our trip, but our computer is still not cooperating. School has been o.k., but very tiring this week. Report cards go home on Monday and there are lots of tests to grade (and I'm doing this instead:-)
